Whole School The Bridge Careers Service

By Ms Drapela (Careers and Sixth Form Administrator)

Throughout last week, BGS participated in National Careers Week 2023, with the Bridge Careers Service delivering a range of activities and events for all year groups to take part in throughout the week. From daily quizzes to careers games to our Instagram takeover there were lots of opportunities for students to explore our department, look at diverse careers and various skills.

The week started off with the Careers Photo Scavenger Hunt where students were asked to explore the School from a career’s perspective having to complete challenges to finish the game. It was wonderful to see how students worked together to finish the challenges and we received some wonderful selfies in front of our Bridge Logo Mural just outside our office.

To continue in theme and celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) the Careers team set-up a Bridge Pop-up. Here we opened up our IWD Problem Solvers Bingo, which asked students to explore Problem Solving Women around the world such as Isatou Ceesay, who saw a problem in her own community and initiated a recycling movement called One Plastic Bag in the Gambia. Students were asked to reflect on their skills and attributes in a positive way through our Dice Positivity Game, answering prompts like, how can you help others?  What is something you are proud of? What are your top three skills? We were warmed by the students' responses but not surprised that they echoed being Bold, Imaginative and Reflective.

We ended our National Careers week by allowing our students to get creative through our I am Word Cloud Activity. The Bridge team were also thrilled to have the chance to take over the BGS Instagram account for the day. It was a fun way for us to communicate what services The Bridge offers, how we support our students, and what activities and events we plan throughout the year. We also showcased our Bridge Hub, an online careers tool that supports students preparing for their journey after BGS.

The Careers team were pleased to see so many students take part in the fun and take advantage of some extra special resources/opportunities focused on careers and skills.
