By Mrs Button (Year 6 Teacher)
On Tuesday 25th April, Year 6 had the privilege of taking part in the Faith Tour. As part of this tour, the students were able to visit three different places of worship: a Gurdwara, a Mosque and a Church.
At each place, a representative from the community shared their beliefs and different aspects of their building and artefacts, providing the students with a real insight into each of the religions that comprise the tour. Some of the highlights were: hearing the call to prayer being sung in the Mosque; eating lunch while sitting on the rugs in the Langar Hall in the Gurdwara and being able to touch the very old, carved stone baptismal font in the Church.
The purpose of the trip very much links to the key concept of perspective (one of the key concepts we focus on this half term), helping the students with being open minded and respectful of the beliefs of others.
Henrietta (Year 6) said: “I enjoyed going to each of the buildings and seeing how they had put a lot of thought into how they were decorated - it seemed quite extravagant, so it showed they cared about it a lot.”
Hattie (Year 6) said: “I really enjoyed seeing how different religions express their feelings about their beliefs and how they have many similarities as well as differences.”
Rosanna (Year 6) said: “It was really interesting learning all about the Sikh Gurdwara and being able to walk around the throne and canopy.”
Noorie (Year 6) said: “It was intriguing to discover that the Mosque was built in a way that it helps people going there face towards Mecca when they pray and I was astonished by the fact that they pray five times a day.”
