Junior School

By Mrs Inkson (Head of Year 6)

Year 6 have eagerly returned to school after the half term break, filled with renewed enthusiasm for their upcoming IB PYP Exhibition. With great dedication, each group has delved deep into researching their chosen world issue, fully immersing themselves in the subject matter.

The girls have taken their research to the next level by contemplating relevant data related to their respective issues and exploring how statistical skills can effectively convey their findings.

To assist with their research, each group has been assigned an Exhibition Mentor, a valued member of the BGSl community who will provide invaluable support throughout their Exhibition journey. The mentors are dedicated to asking thought-provoking questions, helping locate relevant information, verifying sources, and offering comprehensive guidance and feedback. Each group had their first meeting with their mentors this week which was very exciting.

During these initial meetings, after introducing themselves, the girls eagerly shared their motivations for researching an issue they are passionate about, explained the specific focus of their research, and detailed their strategies for initiating the research process. The mentors not only provided a wealth of suggestions and ideas but also set specific targets for the girls to accomplish before their next meeting. These targets will undoubtedly foster the development of the girls' time management skills, further enhancing their overall growth and progress.

Anna (6BR) said: “Our mentor helped by giving us ideas and making us think deeply about the reason why we should stop animal extinction.”

Simone (6I) added: “A different perspective helped us with our understanding of racism.”

Poppy (6BR) said: “Meeting our mentor made it feel like the Exhibition is really happening!”

Lottie (6I) reflected: “It was helpful to have someone to talk to which helped us think deeper about the subject. They also helped us come up with new things to consider.”
