Junior School Eco and Sustainability

The Junior School Gardening Club has resumed its activities this term, and it has been a hive of activity!

The first task was organising the greenhouse and creating ample space to accommodate an abundance of seeds. The girls have planted a diverse range of vegetable seeds, including runner beans, French beans, leeks, and rainbow chard.

In addition to sowing the seeds, our budding gardeners have used large digging forks to prepare the vegetable patch, ensuring it is free from weeds. Following a few successful weeks of nurturing the seeds within the greenhouse, the time came to transplant them on Tuesday. Notably, our seed potatoes, planted in grow bags, have shown fantastic growth!

As we move forward, it is crucial for the girls to keep a close eye on all the plants in the coming weeks, especially considering the impending heat. Regular watering and attentive care will be essential in maintaining the plants' well-being.

Aaleesha (5C) said: “I have really enjoyed learning about new plants and how to grow them such as rainbow chard.”

Evie (5C) added: “I joined the Gardening Club so that I can learn new skills which can be used in my own garden at home.”
