The new school year is officially underway with all the students back and enjoying the library space. Library lessons have once again become a hive of activity: not only have the girls been discovering new worlds, embarking on great adventures and solving all kinds of mysteries but they have also had the chance to explore events from the past along with researching current affairs and other information ready for their classroom lessons.
The girls have been introduced to and refreshed on the Dewey decimal system, making it easier for them to find the non-fiction resources that will help them with their Active Inquiry. We have found many common interests when talking about hobbies that the students pursue outside school, and they have enjoyed learning more about those in the books they find.
The library has been abuzz with discussion with students reflecting on their favourite genres of fiction and trying to answer those timeless questions: is humour better than fantasy? Should graphic novels become the norm? Just what is the difference between a mystery and a thriller?! It has been an exciting space for girls to share what they have been reading over the summer and what they are looking for now.
In addition to the weekly lessons, we have opened the library back up at lunch times so that girls can attend and experience the fun we have in the library club. This week has been all about designing our own bookmarks to use when diving into a new story. The girls have loved getting creative with their drawings and have been proudly showing their ideas to each other.
