We were delighted to welcome back BGS alumna Emily English (2013) on Wednesday 15th November for two inspiring talks on food and nutrition, showcasing her journey since leaving school and her current role as a nutritionist influencer.
Emily shared a plethora of healthy tips with our students, ranging from crafting nutritious oat-based breakfasts to ideas for convenient meals on the go and the benefits of batch cooking. Central to her advice was the importance of embracing diverse food groups and incorporating a spectrum of colourful fruits and vegetables into daily cooking to ensure a rich intake of essential vitamins.
Mrs Lovett (Head of Food and Nutrition) reflected on Emily’s visit: “Year 11 Food and Nutrition students welcomed Emily to their lesson to talk to them about her journey from being a student at BGS with a passion for science to where she is now, working with big brands as a nutritionist. It was so fascinating to hear about how her interest for Chemistry and Biology at school and her career in the fashion industry led her to realise that she had a hole in her knowledge when it came to nutrition - she thought it was so important to determine fact from fiction.
Emily talked about her experience of the IB diploma and answered questions on ideas for nutritious breakfasts, ideas for what we can eat to aid concentration and the importance of gut health and polyphenols. Emily made it clear that everyone has different needs and it is important not to compare what we eat to others. There is a place for all food; some food will make us feel better than others and we need to think about that when making our choices. Thank you, Emily, for an inspiring talk.”
Emily’s mantra, centered on ‘feeling the best you can be’ through nutritious food choices, resonated with everyone. Explore her enriching insights on her website here and discover her nutritious recipes by following @emthenutritionist.
