Senior School The Bridge Careers Service

By Miss Duckworth (Marketing & Admissions Assistant)

On Monday 13th November, we had the pleasure of hosting BGS Alumna, Sarah Philpot (2016), as part of our Lunch Box Lecture series. Sarah, who completed her studies at BGS until Year 11, pursued higher education at Kimberley College and the University of West London. During the lockdown, she continued her academic journey by earning a Masters at Rose Bruford College.

Sarah engaged with our students, detailing her professional journey within live events, she has worked as a sound engineer, tour manager and lighting operator. She gave details of her day-to-day tasks and what life can be like when you’re on the road, including what it’s like to share a tour bus with 10 other people! Presently, she is on tour with Jools Holland and has previously toured alongside Ricky Gervais.

During her presentation, Sarah highlighted the variety of different roles within live events, discussing some of their tasks, encouraging the students that within the industry they can find an area they are passionate about even if it’s not the one they are currently working in. Sarah gave details of the career paths into the industry, including apprenticeships, and informed the students that she started gaining work experience when she was 15!

Overall, Sarah’s talk emphasised the diverse career options within the industry, encouraging students to explore their passions and early work experiences as potential pathways to success.
