On Thursday 18th January, Year 10 Fine Art students got the taste of two incredibly versatile printing techniques on their creative workshop day.
They had the opportunity to explore both etching and lino printing methods, developing research to support their current coursework, exploring the theme of still life. The work of Morandi was the inspiration behind the dry point etching technique, exploring hatched lines to describe the form of objects.
The students etched their designs from one of their photographs onto a plastic plate; they learnt how to ink up using a dobber and were introduced to working the printing press. Their etching prints were of excellent quality and will make a super addition to their book work.
Additionally, lino prints were developed in response to Photoshop-edited photographs. Students blocked out forms to transfer onto the lino. They then spent time carefully cutting their designs and were then able to fully explore this printing technique, investigating a range of colours and textures of paper to print onto.
An excellent day of printing, with new skills learnt by all. View photos from the creative workshop day here.
