By Mrs Cruse (Head of Years 7 and 8)
On Thursday evening, the Year 7 and 8 students visited Milton Keynes Theatre to watch Fantastically Great Women Who Changed the World.
Based on Kate Pankhurst’s bestselling picture book, the toe-tapping show was an inspiring and uplifting musical, telling the story of some amazing women in history and encouraging girls to reach for their dreams. The mantra of the musical was ‘well-behaved women rarely make history’.
The students heard the inspiring stories of a number of women. It started with Amelia Earhart and Gertrude Ederle explaining their stories, with Gertrude telling the audience, ‘the best way to do it is just do it.’ The show looks at the stories of Jane Austen, Emmeline Pankhurst, and many others. The words of Frida Kahlo particularly resonated with the students, ‘Find joy first, talent will follow’.
The end of the show featured Rosa Parks and Anne Frank, delivering the poignant message that the end of the stories for some of these great women does not always end happily.
Olivia Deverill (Year 8) said, “I liked that we had the opportunity to buy snacks to enjoy the theatre, and it was so much fun but also very educational too! I really enjoyed the show; it wasn’t too long or too short, and we had a really great view. It was fascinating learning about inspirational women in history. Thank you for this trip! I look forward to more like this.”
