On Monday 12th February, the BGS Years 7-9 Debate Club invited students from Goldington Academy to join us for our inaugural inter-school debate competition of the year.
The students engaged in two compelling debates – ‘Every child should own a pet’, followed by ‘All 10-year olds should have a mobile phone.’ The competition was fierce and there were excellent points raised, with good counter-arguments presented from both teams and thoughtful questions posed by the audience.
It was a close call, but unfortunately Goldington Academy came out as the winners in both debates. The students that took part should all be very proud of themselves however. A special mention goes to Ruqayya (BGS, Year 7) and Miya (BGS, Year 8), who both won ‘best speakers’ for their teams.
A thank you also to our two Sixth Form helpers at the event, Annabelle and Hannah, who supported our teams’ preparation in the weeks leading up to the competition and acted as chairperson on the day.
