By Mrs Schofield (Head of Year 4)

This week, Year 4 finished their Unit of Enquiry, How We Express Ourselves, with some wonderful artwork at the end of the first half of Spring Term.

The girls had worked hard to research the teachings of Sikhism and Christianity and to reflect on the different ways people express their values and beliefs through symbolism in art. Their Sikh paintings were created after observing the beautiful land and skyscapes in Sikh art, with the girls exploring different tones and adding key elements such as the Guru Granth Sahib and the Golden Temple.

To contrast this the girls then observed some of the many beautiful and ornate stained-glass windows that decorate Christian churches, identifying the symbol of the cross as the focus of many. Their stained-glass windows were designed and created using a collage effect, and some very tricky techniques to cut and arrange the edging! It really has been a creative unit of learning.
