Whole School The Green Kitchen

By Mrs Tombs (Deputy Catering Manager)

Every half term, the Greens Kitchen hosts a culture menu takeover for lunch that is voted for by our students. I sent a vote by email with a choice of five different countries. The students vote, and then the winning country has a traditional menu made.

This term, the choices were Portugal, Scotland, Pakistan, Jamaica and Lebanon. It was a close call right up until the vote closed, with Pakistan just piping Jamaica to the post by only 1%. The menu takeover will take place on Thursday 23rd May, and one of the featured dishes will be Beef Nihari, a slow-cooked, deeply flavourful beef stew with spices like garam masala, ginger and fennel seeds. Have a look at the recipe here and try creating your own Pakistani feast.

Don't worry if the list of ground spices is not in your spice cupboard; students can pop by the Greens Kitchen to grab a pot of all the measured-out spices needed, mixed and ready to go. These will be available until Thursday 23rd May.
