We’re incredibly proud to announce that talented dancer Isabella Bacon (Year 10) shone at the prestigious 2023 Irish Dancing World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland (23rd - 31st March 2024).

The event is the highest level of competition for Irish dancers, attracting competitors from as far away as Australia, America and Canada. They have all had to qualify for this prestigious event in regional qualifying competitions .These dancers gathered at the SEC in Glasgow for a week of dancing.

Competing against 147 of the best Irish dancers in the U15 category, Isabella excelled on the first day with her routines and earned a recall to day two by finishing in the top 50%. Overall, she placed 73rd out of 147, and one judge ranked her third in the world for her day two heavy shoe round, which she was delighted with!

Isabella, who currently represents the Herlihy-Burgoine School of Irish Dance, said: “I was really pleased to get the recall at the World Championships this year . I had lots of support in Glasgow from my teachers, family and dance friends and they were all there cheering me on! It has made me determined to work hard to get the recall again in Dublin 2025 and hopefully get the final recall to finish in the top 50 next year).

In February, Isabella competed at the All-Ireland Championships (Oireachtas Rince na hÉireann) and brought home a Solo Recall medal for the light round, placing in the top 50 out of 148 girls in the U15 category.

Isabella has been dancing since the age of 5 and currently competes in the Heavy Jig, Slip Jig, and Set Dance categories. She also dances with BGS student Arlana Cunningham (Year 5).
