By Mrs Thomas (Year 3 Teacher)
This week, our Year 3 girls had the wonderful opportunity to participate in a special Reading Breakfast centred around the book Here We Are by Oliver Jeffers. This engaging picture book, written as a manual to life on Earth from new dad Oliver Jeffers to his baby son, serves as both an overview of our planet and a guide to living well. It beautifully explores concepts of kindness, tolerance, and environmental responsibility, tying perfectly into our current Unit of Inquiry, Sharing the Planet.
During the Reading Breakfast, the girls explored the themes of the book, thinking about how our choices can affect the world. After reading Here We Are, the girls worked on a fun activity: making posters to welcome someone to planet Earth. They thought about questions like what the main title should be and what important information to include. They also considered how to present a positive view of our planet and how to organise their information using bullet points, subheadings, and illustrations.
The posters showed the girls’ creativity and thoughtfulness. They were colourful, imaginative, and showcased each child's unique perspective. The posters also highlighted the beauty and diversity of Earth and emphasised the importance of treating our planet and its inhabitants with kindness and respect.
Thank you to all the parents who continue to support our educational efforts, helping to make such enriching experiences possible for the girls.
