Election Fever

Senior School Politics

By Mr Fortune (History Teacher)

On Thursday 4th July, there was a ‘political buzz’ around BGS ahead of the national election in the UK.

Students from Years 7-10 and the Lower Sixth came out en masse to vote for their party of choice. The event provided a valuable opportunity for our students to engage in the democratic process and have their voices heard.

Near the voting booths, there were displays about each political party, giving the students a snapshot of the parties’ manifestos. Turnout was highest in Year 9, with 82% of students voting.

The Green Party was popular with the Lower Sixth students, and the Lib Dems picked up a large number of votes in Years 9 and 10. However, this wasn’t enough to stop the Conservatives from coming out on top, receiving 35% of the total votes. The Lib Dems came second with 28%, and the Greens third with 17%.

Very well done to everyone who came to vote!
