We are delighted to share that talented netballers Emily Thompson (Year 9) and Evie Maslin (Year 8) lifted the ENG Battle of Britain trophy following a 23-11 victory against Northern Ireland at the end of July.
The finals are the culmination of the Battle of Britain netball performance camps held throughout the 2023/24 season. These camps provide access to high-level competition, exposing players to regional, national, and potentially international platforms.
Emily and Evie qualified for the finals by attending an ENG netball skills workshop. They were then placed into mixed teams and played in a round-robin tournament to determine the overall winner in their area of England. The teams consisted of players from a variety of netball clubs across Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas. Emily and Evie’s team was a mixture of players from MK Netters, MK Dons, Herts Dynamos, and Olney.
In June, they attended a national tournament in High Wycombe, where they competed against several teams from regions including the West Midlands, Manchester, and London, to determine the overall victors of the England Nationals.
After winning the national title, they progressed to the International Tournament, where they faced teams from Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland, who had also followed the same qualification process.
We are incredibly proud of Emily and Evie’s achievements and look forward to continuing to follow their promising netball journey. We are excited to see what the future holds for these talented athletes!
Emily said: “I am very grateful to have been given this big of an opportunity, and alongside my friends as well. It was a great experience to play against some really tough teams from different countries and be supported by so many families and friends.”
Evie added: “‘I’m so happy about this achievement. It was such a great weekend and I was so lucky to share the moment with my friends and family. I think the competition went well. It was very special to sing the national anthem and was a very surreal moment.”
