Junior School Music

By Mr Page (Director of Music)

The Juniors have been busy making music all week. The Junior Orchestra has already started preparing for Christmas, and the Junior Choir has started preparing for Wembley Arena in February!

A musical highlight of the week was the Junior School Tea-Time Concert on Wednesday. There were twenty performances from Years 3 – 6, ranging from Florence Price to Taylor Swift, and from Morning Has Broken to Bananas in Pyjamas

It was wonderful to see all the performers shining as they played and sang with great confidence and enthusiasm. It was lovely to hear some really accomplished performances from the more experienced players, alongside others who were giving their very first performance on an instrument they’d only been playing for a few months. There were beams on all the girl’s faces as they bowed to the rapturous applause of the crowd, and then again as they enjoyed a congratulatory custard-cream at the end of the concert!

Another series of wonderful events taking place through the week have been the Year 3 Taster Sessions, on violin, cello, flute and clarinet. The girls really enjoyed listening to tutor demonstrations on the various instruments, and they then loved having the opportunity to have a go at playing each of the instruments in turn.

When asked if any of them would be interested in a one-to-one taster lesson, hands shot up, so I’m now looking forward to seeing a new generation of instrumentalists starting to learn, and who knows, some of them may well end up being our youngest performers at the next Tea-Time Concert!
