After clinching a gold medal in Pontevedra, Spain, last year, BGS Head of Swimming Mr Castro’s next elite championship was the European Triathlon Championships 2024 (35-39 Male AG) in Vichy, France, on Sunday, 22nd September.

In challenging racing conditions, Mr Castro achieved a commendable 5th place against the very best triathletes in his age category. He finished with a time of 02:06:07, completing the fastest swim in the age category. You can view the full breakdown of the race times here.

Reflecting on the championships, Mr Castro said: “I came 5th in my age group and 11th overall, and I was the second-fastest British athlete in the race. I was also the fastest swimmer overall across all age groups! Whilst I didn’t get a medal this time, I’m still really happy with 5th in Europe given the racing conditions on the day, and I’m really proud of the swim as I’m still beating a lot of younger athletes. I’m staying positive and am now back into hard training, looking forward to the World Championships in Torremolinos in four weeks time.”

We’re incredibly proud of Mr Castro’s triathlon achievements and look forward to cheering him on at the World Championships as he aims to defend his top podium finish.
