By Miss Harris (Head Rowing Coach)
Over the weekend, 44 rowers from Years 10 to the Upper Sixth had a busy day competing at the Docklands Head on the Royal Albert and Victoria Docks.
This annual event offers an excellent opportunity for our rowers to put their training to the test. At this time of year, the crews race in matched crews, which helps to build camaraderie and squad cohesion as they work towards the remainder of the season. With a quick turnaround between divisions, they had to be organised and efficient to ensure they were ready for each race. The fast-paced scheduling, which is driven by the need to clear the water before planes begin their descent at the nearby London City Airport, requires the rowers to be highly self-reliant. This skill of managing time, equipment and personal readiness under pressure is useful both on and off the water.
We were impressed with how our rowers conducted themselves throughout the day, demonstrating resilience, determination and teamwork. While there were numerous strong performances across the board, a special mention must go to our WJ15 quad crew of A Green, L Sonsino, E Pugsley, L Melvill, and P Johnson (cox), who raced up a category and emerged victorious.
Well done to all the rowers for their dedication and achievements!
