On Wednesday 6 November, we had the pleasure of taking our Lower Sixth Fine Art A Level students to Holkham Beach, where they could immerse themselves in the coastal environment for their Seascapes project.
Setting off at around 9am, we travelled by minibus to Holkham Beach, situated on the stunning North Norfolk coast within the Holkham Estate. Upon arrival, we followed the scenic path that leads down to the expansive shoreline. The day provided an invaluable opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of landscape and seascape elements, which will underpin their ongoing project work.
Throughout the day, students produced a range of primary source sketches and experimented with various media, capturing different textures, forms and perspectives. They also took atmospheric photographs to support their studies, carefully observing the colours, shadows and natural movement of the landscape. Back in the studio, they will continue developing these initial ideas through abstract and experimental techniques, progressing towards ceramic and painted outcomes inspired by the day’s exploration.
The trip proved to be a rewarding experience, offering an inspiring setting that enriched the students’ studies and contributed to work of excellent quality.
