On Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 November, three of our senior swimmers proudly represented their swimming clubs at the East Region Short Course Winter Championships at Inspire:Luton. This annual event is highly competitive, with a single qualifying time set for all age groups, which makes reaching the competition a notable achievement.
For Megan Barnicoat (Year 9), this was her first time qualifying for the championships, and she put in a strong performance in both the 800m freestyle and 200m backstroke, gaining invaluable experience in a highly challenging environment. Bella Ward (Upper Sixth) raced in the 50m freestyle, coming impressively close to her personal best time. Eloise Cole (Lower Sixth), meanwhile, took on seven events over the weekend, advancing to four finals. Among her achievements, she set a new senior county record in the 100m butterfly and earned an impressive fourth place in the 50m freestyle final.
This weekend, Bella and Eloise will be joined by Charlotte Brakenbury (Lower Sixth) and Jeanie Morris (Year 11) as they travel to Birmingham to compete in the Secondary Schools' Team Championships. We wish all four swimmers well as they represent BGS against other top school teams from across the country.
