By Mrs Martin (Head of Year 3)

This week, our Year 3 have been exploring how society honours significant individuals through an engaging Design and Technology (DT) inquiry. Using the design process - Design, Make, Evaluate and Improve they creatively represented the impact of figures such as Florence Nightingale, Rosa Parks, Malala Yousafzai and Greta Thunberg.

With materials like play dough, acetate sheets and card, the girls crafted statues, plaques, and stained glass designs, deepening their appreciation for how significant people are remembered. Working with play dough posed unexpected challenges, offering valuable insight into the precision needed for working with clay in future projects.

Teamwork was a key focus, with students learning to communicate research effectively, and delegate tasks. Thought-provoking discussions such as “What if Rosa Parks never refused to give up her seat?” encouraged critical thinking about the impact of these individuals on society.

Through hands-on exploration and collaboration, the students have gained a deeper understanding of the lasting influence of change-makers and how their legacies continue to inspire us today.
