Sixth Form Politics students stayed up all night on Tuesday to watch the US Presidential results come through.
The girls started the night enthusiastically, drawing a map of the US states and the 2012 electoral college results. They analysed the predictions, in what was a unique contest, wondering if they were about to witness a historical night where the first female President of the US was to be elected.
Discussion and debate ensued regarding the electoral college and why the US had fielded the two most unpopular candidates in an election.
As the night wore on the girls watched something unfold that the polls simply did not predict. Even when they crossed back to school they could not believe the President elect was not known, although their high spirits were certainly dashed with what it appeared would happen.
The previous day (Tuesday), BGS held a mock election for Senior School students and staff, with 602 votes cast, an overall turnout of 72%. 78% of the electoral voted for Clinton.
