On Tuesday, our Girls’ Leadership Group (GLG) participated in an engaging Leadership Day to prepare and enthuse them for their year ahead.
Incoming Head Girl, Nawaal Qazi, reflected on the day: “The GLG Leadership Day was both informative and enjoyable. It provided valuable insight, preparing the team and myself for the upcoming year.
“In the morning, we welcomed Psychologist and Executive Coach, Kate Lanz (BHS 1982), who shared a neurological perspective on the differences in female brains, particularly their strengths. The interactive session encouraged us to share our current concerns, with Kate addressing each individually. Using her years of experience to teach effectively managing teams. Kate displayed studies about how better circumstances are directly proportional to better work. She encouraged us to harbour them and ‘create equal opportunities for people of different value’, exemplifying how this can be achieved. The tools she showcased will enable us, as future leaders, to create a more equitable workforce- one where women truly have equal opportunities.
“The afternoon with Kerry Batten (née Marshall, DAHS 1993) gave us not only a wealth of knowledge to take away with us, but also a goodie bag! Another discursive session, enabling us to learn more about each other- which fostered a closer sense of community within the team. Her different activities exhibited the importance of prioritising our health and wellbeing. It was a good opportunity to check in with us, acknowledging how we can progress forward in a balanced manner. Kerry let us write letters to ourselves that she plans to return in a year so that we can reflect on our progress.
“While Kate inspired us to scale new heights, Kerry reminded us to pace ourselves to avoid slipping”.
“Other traditions took place throughout the day. Including GLG lunch with a selection that was thoughtfully curated, elegantly presented, and absolutely delicious. As well as an evening with parents of the incoming and outgoing GLG, where handing over of the baton officially took place. Facilitated by the physical handing over of a GLG diary for each captain.
“It was a day that marked the beginning of an exciting year for the incoming GLG and the conclusion of a successful one for the outgoing GLG, making the transition a memorable experience for us all.”
