Trips and Excursions Mathematics

On Thursday 18th January, Year 7 girls spent the day at the Airbus Foundation Discovery Space in Stevenage.

The purpose of the visit was to develop their problem solving skills and their understanding of the space industry by taking part in practical workshops involving real life applications of Mathematics and Physics.

Sophia Osbourne and Charlotte Parnham enjoyed the hands-on experience and said:  “Today has been an awesome day, we have enjoyed loads of hand-on activities that were enriching inspiring and exciting. Our favourite task was making satellites with paper, foil, tissue paper and sellotape – that had to prevent a raw egg from cracking. It was great fun seeing people’s reactions when their egg didn’t make the journey. Our group named ‘Egg Ward’ successfully survived.”

Faith Adeyemi-Abere’s highlight of the day was the interactive element, she said: “My highlight of this incredible Mathematics trip to Stevenage was the interactive session where we could touch and play with objects from whispering dishes to robotic claws. There was not a single thing that went unmissed. Everyone had an amazing time and most importantly learnt something new. I hope that the trips to come will be as magical as this one.”
