On Thursday 18th January, our Year 4 girls were excited at the prospect of meeting a real explorer and scientist as part of their Unit of Enquiry, Into the Unknown, and they were not disappointed.

Miss Maddie Brasier, a PhD student at the University of Liverpool, arrived ready to teach the girls all about her experiences and studies in Antarctica. Maddie has been lucky enough to explore this polar region twice already, one of these excursions being with an all-female team.

The girls listened to Maddie’s accounts of working on ships and in research stations, and about her particular focus on Antarctic worms. They also had the opportunity to try on protective clothing and plan their own trips to Antarctica.

It really was a fantastic experience for the girls, and something that will inspire them to dream big.
