On Wednesday, we welcomed Dr Hisham Al-Assam and Dr Tuan Nguyen from the University of Buckinghamshire to give a taster session on Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality and how it will be a huge growth area in the next five years.

They talked about the explosion of these technologies in health, science, the arts and every other sector and how computer science is going to be invaluable as the girls could be the people writing the code to make it happen. They also talked about the huge employability of computer scientists coming out of university and how important the subject is to be studying it at school.

The girls also had a chance to use an augmented reality app and also the Microsoft HoloLens, which is a ‘mixed reality’ device that they are currently using for research at the university. The HoloLens created an interactive model of a huge dinosaur that the girls could explore, walk around and through.

Overall, it was a fantastic and immersive taster session and we look forward to hosting similar workshops in the future.
