The Junior and Senior Schools were a hive of activity on Wednesday 27th June as our Years 3 to 6 budding coders worked collaboratively and explored technology in an informal, creative and social environment.
The coding day was a great introduction to the ideas encapsulated in computational thinking, such as pattern recognition, decomposition, sequencing and algorithmic thinking.
The hands-on day gave pupils the opportunity to further develop their coding skills using an iPad and desktop computer. Coding activities included creating an adventure game using Scratch, understanding and writing HTML using the online coding editor Thimble and gaining exposure to visual programming fundamentals through Hopscotch. The pupils also took part in offline coding activities, gaining an understanding of the theory behind algorithms.
Miss Crawford-Smith, ICT Co-ordinator, said: "The day was about creating, thinking and problem solving as well as the social aspect of working together. It was fantastic to see pupils from Years 3 – 6 sharing skills and working collaboratively whilst making new friends.”
Year 4 pupil, Sukhi Sahota said: “Coding Day was a really fun way to learn about coding and to get to know girls in other year groups.”
