After a memorable three weeks immersing themselves into life at Bedford Girls’ School, the PLC students head back to Australia on Sunday (6th October).
After throwing themselves into the BGS curriculum and various excursions, the girls started off their last week in England with a trip to London on Thursday where they visited some of the capital’s attractions, including the iconic Shard and Tate Modern.
The girls will say goodbye to their five BGS counterparts over a farewell meal tonight at the School, with the group meeting again in Perth in June when the BGS students visit.
Here are a summary of highlights from Rachel Gibb, Emily Godber and Salma Grono (PLC student):
Rachel Gibb
“On Thursday 20th September, we went on a school trip to Stratford upon Avon, to visit Shakespeare's house and place of birth. After immersing ourselves in the history, we discovered that William Shakespeare had seven siblings, and his father was a glove maker, his workshop still functioning. Did you know that Shakespeare was only 5” 6’ tall, and he slept sitting up, because during the Elizabethan era they believed that lying flat was the position of the dead. This meant that all of the beds are very small. Overall, we had a great time learning interesting facts about Shakespeare and trying on ancient gloves.”
Salma Grono (PLC student)
“On September 27th, myself and the four other exchange students from Australia had the wonderful opportunity to go to Bletchley Park in the afternoon. It was such a good experience, we learnt how they used coding in World War 2. They had many interactive displays, which kept us intrigued throughout the day. Iam grateful I had the opportunity to see Bletchley Park.”

“Yesterday (4th October), The PLC and BGS students visited London, beginning with the Tate Modern which had a lot of interesting art work from a variety of different artists. We next visited Borough Market, which had a variety of street food from around the world – we even sampled the delicious doughnuts. We were all excited to visit our next location, The Shard, the view was stunning and we couldn’t believe how tall it was! Finally, we visited St Paul’s Cathedral; to get there we walked over the pedestrianised Millennium Bridge. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the trip and it was nice as it was our last trip with the Australians.”
