Mrs Fox (Careers Administrator)
Our ever-popular Lunchbox Lectures returned on Monday with a visit from Dame Alice Harpur School alumna (1990), Anna Jacobs, who now works as a self-employed Music Therapist.
The Lunchbox Lectures programme sees a number of visiting speakers, ranging from alumnae to business professionals, passing on their pearls of wisdom to Senior School girls during a weekly lunchtime session.
Anna gained a BMus (Hons) degree from the University of Lancaster in 1993 and following this qualified as a Music Therapist in 1995. She was awarded an MA in Music Therapy in 2000 following research in the field of Music Therapy with Adults with Learning Disabilities and has undertaken additional training in counselling. She has many years’ experience in working with both children and adults in the fields of Learning Disabilities and Mental Health.
Most recently, Anna worked for the local authority specialising in providing therapy for children with severe emotional and behavioural difficulties. Anna is also a British Association for Music Therapy (BAMT) approved clinical supervisor.
During the session, Anna discussed what a role in Music Therapy entails. She explained that the fundamental role of music therapy is not to teach a client how to play an instrument; it helps find a way in which to express their emotions in a safe and supported environment.
Lunchbox Lectures coming up in the next few weeks include Public Relations (Wednesday 17th October) and Sports Management (Date to be confirmed) and are open to all girls from Year 9 upwards.
