Mrs Axford (Director of Sport)

On Wednesday 14th November, our 1st Lacrosse team travelled to Lady Eleanor Holles School for the South Schools Invitation Tournament.

BGS started well, winning their first game 6-0 against Stowe. Four tough games followed against St Catherine’s, Guildford, Berkhamsted and Caterham, which meant four losses in a row despite some very competitive lacrosse and some inspirational goal keeping from Georgia Staroscik.

Undaunted though BGS came back with a win against St Swithuns finishing 5th in the group and qualifying for the ‘Bowl’ tournament.

BGS were then drawn against North London Collegiate with BGS coming out with a 3-1 win with Fleur Leech scoring a penalty to close out the game just before the final whistle.  The final was played against St Catherine 2nd team where BGS dominated from the outset winning 4-0.

The team were outstanding throughout the day not only in the consistent high standard of play they showed throughout the tournament but also in their mental approach and team cohesiveness against some of the very top lacrosse schools in the country. Especially encouraging was that this success came despite three key BGS 1st team players being unavailable due to a school trip. A special mention should go to Emily Edwards (Year 11) who played for the 1st team for the first time and made a significant contribution, showing real composure on the ball in attack.

The most valuable player award for BGS went to Cecilia Castell (Upper Sixth) for her outstanding level of play and work rate throughout.

We look forward to hosting Wycombe Abbey School at Cople this Saturday for an afternoon of lacrosse, with twelve teams playing from the 1st team right down to the U12C team.
