Mrs Whomsley (Head of Year 5)

Following on from their tea party last week, Year 5 welcomed their families to join them for an afternoon of sewing.

As part of their Unit of Enquiry, We’ll Meet Again, the girls used scraps of material to create pincushions, reflecting on the Make Do and Mend movement of World War 2.

The girls have been practising a variety of sewing skills and stitches to create their own patterns and embroidery designs. At the end of another busy term, the girls have found these new skills to be particularly relaxing, whilst allowing them to empathise with the efforts of people during the War who were faced with clothes rationing.

It was wonderful for the girls to be able to share their work and supported by visiting family members. Thank you to all of our visitors who joined us for this afternoon and at our tea party last week.
