Sixth Form Mathematics

Sathmi Ambepitiya (Lower Sixth)

On Tuesday 4th of December, a group of four Sixth Form students (myself, Erin Knight, Ayesha Samarawickrama and Rebecca Nisbet) travelled to the Centre for Mathematical Sciences at the University of Cambridge to compete in the Senior Maths Team Challenge. After several weeks of practice sessions, we were all looking forward to the challenge.

Our group did particularly well in the rounds that required teamwork and involved us having to work within a limited time frame.

Personally, I really enjoyed the crossword task, which tested our communication and time management skills, as well as our problem solving skills. The questions were definitely challenging but we loved the atmosphere (especially with the food they provided!) at the centre.

The experience was rewarding and we all would like to come back next year to try and beat this year’s score.
