Mrs Martin (Head of Year 3)

Year 3 set off early on Wednesday Morning, in preparation for their day at The British Museum. On a quest to discover the history and cultural beliefs of ancient Egypt, the girls were given a series of questions to guide their research and to find the answers.

In the Egyptian Sculpture Gallery, the girls were able to view examples of statues of pharaohs, gods and goddesses, stone architecture and carved Egyptian walls. They studied how Egyptians communicated and conveyed meaning through hieroglyphics and the girls were delighted to discover The Rosetta Stone and its importance in Egyptian History.

After a brief lunch break, the girls explored the Mummy Gallery, contextualising their understanding of the Egyptian funerary beliefs and practices. The girls learnt about natural preservation through a 5500 year old human mummy exhibit, whose body was placed directly in the sand. 

The day finished, learning about Egyptian Daily Life, through ancient tomb artefacts from an Egyptian named Nebamun.

This is a really valuable excursion for Year 3; an unmissable opportunity to access primary evidence and to see the awe and wonder in the girls discoveries is magical!
