Mrs Wathen (Head of Biology)

Congratulations to our Upper Sixth A Level biologists who entered the annual British Biology Olympiad (BBO) this term.

We are proud to announce that Emilia Hoar received a Gold certificate (top 7.2% of entries), Clodagh Mackay received a Silver certificate (top 8.2% of entries) and Amandine Gaillard received a bronze certificate (top 14.9% of entries). A further six students were awarded Highly Commended and two Commended.

This year, 9465 students from 727 schools worldwide participated in the BBO. The competition is designed to widen students’ exposure to the world of professional Biology and encourage them to continue with the subject after Sixth Form. It is supported by the University of Warwick and the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC).

The competition is highly regarded and a rewarding experience for those who want to study STEM subjects at university. Our top aspiring science students will now look ahead to study medicine and veterinary medicine at university next year.
