This week, pupils from the Junior and Senior Schools produced outstanding Speech and Drama performances at the Northampton Competitive Eisteddfod (formerly know Northampton Festival of Performing Arts). BGS entered a wealth of talent in the verse speaking and verse duet categories.
Holly Tutt (Year 7) won the overall Verse Speaking class with a poem called The Ghost Train, she was praised by the adjudicator for her chilling interpretation. Pippa Barney (Year 6) was awarded the highest mark and an Outstanding in the Own Choice Verse Speaking class.
Pippa's wonderful performance resulted in an invite to the Gala Celebration Concert on Thursday, where she won the Festival Plate in the Most Promising Junior Competitor (Year 6 and under) category.
Adjudicator, Louise Manders, was overwhelmed by the standard of Verse Speaking and praised the girls on their technical and interpretive expertise and skill. The girls represented the school with poise and charm and were particularly supportive to a class of young students from another school, who were performing in a non-competitive class. The girls gave those students praise and encouragement as they performed.
Mrs Redford (Head of Speech and Drama), said: “We are very proud of the girls who entered the competition in the true spirit of a festival, not to win but to share their work with each other. Well done to all the girls who took part at this very busy time in the school year.”
