BGS hosted another fantastic Write Out session with Bedford Academy (BA) this week, which is a student led partnership where Sixth Form students from both schools run extended sessions for would be writers in Years 7 and 8.

Led by Forhana (Lower Sixth, BA) and Niru Muthiah (Lower Sixth), BGS, the group explored the concept of Dystopian Fiction. The students looked at a range of popular texts from Malorie Blackman’s, Noughts and Crosses to Suzanne Collins, The Hunger Games, before creating their own Dystopian idea within JK Rowling’s, Harry Potter. The brief was to imagine a scenario where Voldemort defeated Harry and gained control over all of the witches and wizards. Here are a few snippets of the outstanding work produced by the group:

Lara Aellen (Year 7) BGS

Everything has been crushed…our whole civilisation defeated. Where once free wizards laughed and worked, fear has overcome us. Fear of death. Fear of torture. We are free no more as Voldemort dictates us in our labour, in our hunger, in our dying days.

Keeley Forbes (Year 8) BA

Silence, only silence. It hurts, it’s deafening. Fog encapsulates the trees, the shadows loom over me, longing to run away from the horror that is approaching.

Khadija Kamara and Riddhi Malepati (Year 8) BGS

Some of us hid in the Muggle basement to save ourselves from the clutches of the Death Eaters. The schism of the wizarding world caused multiple attacks that injured so many Muggles.

Connor Steward (Year 8) BA

Almost everyone lost someone, no matter who it was- it was someone. Voldemort didn’t care. Why would he? When someone wants to takeover, they will go to great lengths to do so…
