After a memorable three weeks immersing themselves into life at Bedford Girls’ School, the PLC (Presbyterian Ladies College, Perth) students headed back to Australia on Thursday.
The girls said goodbye to their five BGS counterparts over a farewell meal on Wednesday evening at the School. The group will be meeting again in Perth in the summer when the BGS students visit.
PLC students Grace, Pippa, Sophie, Monet and Eliza reflected on their BGS experience:
Where do we even begin? Our trip started off with a bang, and we settled into our host homes quickly. Every family had something different to offer and with that, new experiences began to arise. The days went too quickly, and the weekends even quicker.
We were given an amazing opportunity to visit the home of William Shakespeare, Stratford-upon-Avon, where we saw his childhood home and the location of his later home. We then visited Bletchley Park, where we learnt about the role that England played in the victory of WWII. Later that week we toured Cambridge, which blew every one of us away with its rich history. Finally, we headed into London to visit the Shard and The Tate Modern Museum. Incredible.
The opportunity that we were given to travel around the world by ourselves, and immerse in a different culture has been an experience that we will never forget. The confusing train lines and mass scale of Dubai airport has certainly taught us skills we will use later in life.
While we missed our beloved Aussie food, we enjoyed tasting the appetising English cuisine. Our favourite foods include sangas (sandwiches), curry, squashies, tea and cakes. Thanks to all the staff of the school for being so welcoming, especially to librarian Miss Rogers (LRC Manager) for putting up with our squashies addiction. Thanks Mrs Smith (Examinations Manager) for your historical knowledge and education when touring outside the classroom.
We would like to say a very special thankyou to Mrs Axford (Assistant Head). The whole trip could not have been as incredible if it weren’t for her flawless organisation and her supportive, understanding and caring nature, which made the trip feel like a home away from home.
Cheers for having us Bedford Girls’ School.
