We have recently welcomed alumna, Sarah Morse (2015), back in to school for a work experience placement. Sarah has been largely based in the Archives Department in Burnaby House, undertaking a project to preserve, catalogue and display the Dame Alice Harpur School archive material. Sarah has done an incredible job so far and we hope the room will be ready to receive visiting alumnae in the New Year.
Sarah was Deputy Head Girl (2014/15) on the GLG at BGS before going on to achieve a First Class degree in BA Geography from the University of Sheffield.
Sarah attributes this early experience in leadership and public speaking to her success at Sheffield. Whilst at university she became President of the Sheffield University Tennis Club, which forged the way in her successfully campaigning to become the SU Sports Officer and Trustee after graduating. Here, she represented the interests of over 30,000 students to the University, campaigned on making University sport more inclusive and accessible, and actively participated in the financial, strategic and operational planning of the organisation. She was responsible for organising the Sheffield University/Sheffield Hallam Varsity – the largest of its kind in the UK.
During her studies, Sarah also supported the Education For Our Future campaign for a decolonised curriculum and full divestment at Sheffield University, which was achieved this year.
Before Sarah departs BGS, she will be joining students for a Lunchbox Lecture (Tuesday 15th October), where she will be discussing university life and how to get involved in SU sports and societies.
