Many congratulations to Darcey Griffiths (Year 5) who has been selected to play for Arsenal Ladies Football Club. Arsenal are the most successful English Women’s football team and are the Women’s Super League champions. Darcey is inspired by female players like Jordan Nobbs and Alex Scott, and wants all girls to know that they can play football and that the women’s game is growing every year.

Darcey has been playing football for Bedford Ladies FC for four years and was talented spotted when participating in a holiday club ran by Arsenal WFC because of her skills and confidence. On Saturday 19th October, she attended a closed trial at Arsenal’s training facilities in Hertfordshire. She was the only girl attending the two-hour trial, but this did not deter her. Evidently, she performed fantastically as she has now joined Arsenal Ladies Development Team, which will see her play across Europe and nationally.

Darcey said: “I absolutely love playing football. It’s not just a game - it’s so much more than that - it’s not just about the goals you score, but working as a team that you achieve through the season. It’s a dream come true to join Arsenal.”
