Sixth Form Mathematics

Mr Jeffryes (Mathematics Teacher)

On Thursday morning, 39 Lower Sixth and two Upper Sixth Form students participated in the UKMT Senior Mathematical Challenge. The Mathematical Challenge aims to stimulate mathematical problem solving. The questions on the paper are designed to challenge students to think, not to guess. No calculators allowed!

An example of a question on this year’s paper is:-

What is the value of (2019-(2000-(10-9)))-(2000-(10-(9-2019)))?

A 4040 B 40 C -400 D -4002 E -4020

The girls have a chance to get a bronze, silver or gold certificate if they are in the top 40% of the UK from all those students taking the challenge. They also have the opportunity to take the Senior Kangaroo Challenge or British Mathematical Olympiad if they score very highly. We look forward to receiving the results soon!
