On Thursday 5th December, Year 8 spent the afternoon exploring what makes a good friendship, as part of the Positive Relationships strand of their PSHE curriculum.
The girls investigated the link between low self-esteem and typical friendship difficulties, and participated in activities on the themes of standing up the bullies and the foundations of healthy friendships.
The girls were also invited to plan and deliver ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ throughout the school. The girls have taken the idea to their hearts, and encouraging notes and lucky pennies have been appearing all around the school since the afternoon.
Lily Hughes (Year 8), said: “I thought the idea of doing random acts of kindness was a great, as it encouraged us to be kind and talk to people you never thought you would end up talking to, make new friends and make somebody feel better about themselves.
“Random acts of kindness don’t have to cost anything, just even a simple smile can make someone’s day and hopefully carry on like a big chain of kindness all the way through the school! That is why I think it is such a great idea and everybody should at least consider giving it a try.”
Mrs Lang (Head of PSHE), added: “I was really impressed by how enthusiastically the girls participated in the day, and I hope that by embracing the call to 'have courage and be kind; stand up for the girl gets left behind', year 8 will feel empowered to contribute to the school's culture, where everyone is valued.”
