Mr Jeffryes (Mathematics Teacher)

BGS once again produced fantastic results in the recent Intermediate Maths Challenge (IMC), which is run by the UK Mathematics Trust and supported by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. It is aimed at those in Years 9 and 10 and is sat in school.

Over 200,000 pupils across the UK sat the Intermediate Challenge with the top 7% receiving a gold, 13% receiving a silver and 20% bronze. In Year 9, three pupils received silver (Izzy Harrison, Maryam Malik and Tesha Wikramanayake) and ten bronze. In Year 10, five students received silver (Mimi Seward, Anna Felice, Alishba Khalid, Hannah Russell and Athena Kurtti) and ten bronze.

Approximately, 8000 of the top students (4%) are invited to a follow on competition, the Intermediate Olympiad or Kangaroo. Izzy Harrison (Year 9) qualifies for the Kangaroo and takes this challenge on Thursday 19th March.

Here is an example question from the Intermediate Maths Challenge...
