There was laughter, chatter, excitement and some nerves as BGS opened its doors to students in Year 6 for the first time in 10 weeks. The Year 6 teaching and support staff have worked tirelessly to adapt the Junior School and the timetables, to ensure safe social distancing throughout the school day.
Although nervous at first, the girls came in brilliantly, automatically social distancing and excited to chat to their teachers and friends. During the week, the girls have re-engaged in face-to-face teaching for core subjects as well as enjoying PE, well-being activities and many hours of outdoor learning in the sunshine.
In addition to studying the key core subjects this term, the girls will be spending time working towards their Year 6 Exhibition, which celebrates the end of their Junior School journey. We look forward to sharing this with you virtually!
Mrs Howe (Head of the Junior), said: “It was a real joy to welcome the Year 6 pupils back to school this week. School is very different for everyone but I am so proud of the way the girls have adapted to the new routines that are in place to keep everyone safe. This final term in the Junior School is an important time in the life of a Year 6 child, as they start to adjust to the changes that are ahead of them as they move up to the Senior School. We are glad that the government has recognised that this year group is important and our key aim for re-opening to Year 6 was to provide the essential pastoral support at a time when they need it most.
“I would like to thank all of our community, pupils, parents and governors for their support in our re-opening plans, and to staff who have and are continuing to provide provision of care for children of Key Workers.”
We look forward to continuing our learning journey and sharing amazing moments this term with the #BGSCommunity.
