Mr Farrell (DofE Award Manager)
This weekend sees the first of the year’s Duke of Edinburgh’s (DofE) Award expeditions being held. These expeditions are slightly different this year due to COVID restrictions, and will be non-residential and are local to home.
Over fifty Year 10 students will be completing their Bronze expedition in and around the villages and countryside of North Bedfordshire. Working in team of six, the students will have to navigate around a route, they have planned themselves of approximately 10 miles a day. Whilst the weekend is not residential, the teams will all be carrying tents and stoves plus all their own equipment needed for the weekend.
They will have to each cook a hot meal and also complete a project on observing and recording what they encounter during their two days of walking. If you happen to see them over the weekend, please give them a wave!
Later on, in May, the Year 9 Bronze participants will be our completing their expedition in the same area. After half term our Silver and Gold groups will be completing their expeditions in the Oxfordshire Cotswolds where we will be able to start some camping again.
Good luck to everyone completing their expeditions this term.
