Congratulations to Poppy Whitford (Year 7) who represented the Bedfordshire U14 County Cup team over the weekend. Competing at Boston Tennis Club in Lincolnshire, the team of four won their fixtures. Poppy won all of her singles and doubles matches against Norfolk, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire.

Poppy’s performance over the weekend is another success since her return to the tennis court following the most recent lockdown.

Poppy said: “I was so happy to be back competing in my first tournament since lockdown. All the practise I’ve been doing in the last month really paid off as I won all my singles and doubles matches against Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Norfolk. I was so happy Bedfordshire won the U14’s County Cup and I can’t wait to compete again very soon. I’m very keen to improve my rating by entering lots of tournaments over the summer.”

BGS tennis coach, Mrs Bullerwell added: “We are all very proud of Poppy’s success. The LTA have recently changed the age boundaries for competitions which meant Poppy was playing opponents much older than herself. This result was also a huge coup for Bedfordshire tennis, so well done the whole team.”
