Mrs Cruse (Head of Years 7 and 8)
On Friday 26th November, Year 7 spent the day thinking about the nature of true friendships and what bullying is and the benefits and potential problems of social media and personal devices.
The discussions were based on a cinema trip to watch the film, Ron’s Gone Wrong, which is a lively and light-hearted satire. The day began with them thinking about what friendship means to them and after an exciting trip to Cineworld, they engaged in some reflective and thought-provoking discussions looking at the messages from the film.
The students examined the way friendships were portrayed in the film.. They also discussed the very powerful and emotive ending of the film and the parallels drawn here with real friendships.
The film generated discussions regarding the power and use of social media and the students very clearly reflected upon its positive and negative use. They were also asked to think about the representation of the characters and their culture and individuality, again they thought deeply about the characters and came up with some thoughts about the satire and exaggeration of the characters.
Overall the film provided a fantastic stimulus from which the students were able to explore important issues on an individual and group basis.
