Junior School Science

Mrs Schofield (Head of Year 4)

Science in Year 4 has started with great excitement and exploration of different states of matter. There is rarely more excitement than when the girls don their science overalls and venture into the Science room. Each group explored the objects provided, by using key questions to determine if it was a solid, liquid or gas.

There were plenty of examples of materials that contained more than one form of matter, such as bubble blowing, hair mousse and fizzy drinks, but also solids that behaved like a liquid, such as jelly and a cup of salt. The girls worked together to sort and classify each object and really used their observation and communication skills to determine the facts and negotiate their thoughts. A super start to our Science unit!
