On Tuesday morning, Year 6 invited BGS parent, Mr Tim Guest, to talk about managing change as they transition to the Senior School.
Since 2019, Mr Guest has been the Director of Consulting 51, a mentoring service for business professionals. During the engaging talk, he posed questions about ‘what does change mean to you’, this opened up discussions and the girls were invited to give examples of change and the feelings they had before, during and after. Olivia said: “I moved home and I was really nervous but I learnt that sometimes change can be good. Trust yourself!
Sylvia added: “I joined this school this year. I had to make new friends. I learnt that sometimes change can be hard but can be good for you. Mr Guest pointed out the valuable learning opportunities that change brings.”
Mr Guest went on to discuss the change curve and helped the girls to consider how it related to them. He ended the session by discussing how Year 6 might be feeling about starting Year 7 and suggested that they create a positive vision for the future.
The girls enjoyed the talk and took away valuable strategies as they look to a changing future.
Mrs Copp (Deputy Head of Junior School) said: “We are very privileged to have been able to involve a member of our parent community to share his experience and knowledge in this important field and know that the students will benefit from discussions like this as they go through school life.”
