Mrs Schofield (Head of Year 4)
Should Deforestation of the Rainforests be Banned?
Year 4 have had such a busy week preparing their arguments for our annual debate on Friday 24th June. There was such a buzz in the classrooms as the girls used their thinking, research and communication skills to prepare their arguments and find facts and evidence to support their viewpoints.
Two girls were chosen from each class to present their arguments in front of the whole year group, and to a very special visitor, local MP Mohammed Yasin! Our extremely capable Chair women, Tilly McGee and Hattie Rogers, organised the proceedings and allowed questions afterwards, before counting the votes and announcing the winners. It was a hotly contested debate and Mr Yasin told the girls he was really impressed with their passion and debating skills. Not surprisingly, the girls voted to ban deforestation, but all the girls have developed their understanding of the conflicts arising from population growth and the need to feed, provide valuable medicines and house growing numbers of people. The debate was a great success and such a fabulous way to demonstrate their learning.
Our amazing presenters were; Mia Thacker, Lia Ben Cohen, Atirolaoluwa Salako, Ottilia Reger, Isabella Hoare and Jaya Ladher.
